Susanne Friedrich (San Francisco)
Susanne Friedrich is a photographer and designer, living in San Francisco. She graduated from New England School of Photography (Boston) in 1986 with a major in photojournalism.

"I am becoming more and more aware of time and how it shapes and leaves its marks on people and the Earth. I am drawn to old places and objects, and I find great beauty in the weathered and smoothed surfaces of rocks, wood and metal. I love the way nature reclaims places that humans no longer inhabit. I also love the adventure of seeking out remote places and the cameraderie of fellow photographers who are willing to spend long hours hanging around in some dark and often eery location. In 2002 I began photographing with a specially modified Holga plastic camera, (The modification involved spray paint and superglue), mainly because I couldn't afford a Hasselblad. I have found this to be a perfect camera for my subject matter, softening and blurring the outlines, and giving the image a dated look. " www.sanneart.com

"But the darkness pulls in everything: shapes and fires, animals and myself,
how easily it gathers them! - powers and people -
and it is possible a great energy is moving near me.
I have faith in nights."

Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926) translated from the German by Robert Bly
