I attended San Jose State University and The San Francisco
Academy of Art College and was fortunate to be in classes
taught by Steve Harper. There are a lot of night photographers
who can trace their lineage back to this man. After school,
I pursued commercial photography. I was very lucky to work
with great mentors like Jim Karageorge in San Francisco, Rick
Diaz in Miami and Flip Chalfant in Atlanta. I learned as much
about life as I did about photography from them.
A very good friend of mine, Robert Tretsch, and I opened
a small gallery in downtown Atlanta called Gallery Thirty
Thirty Three. We showed my work occasionally as well as some
other talented photographers. It was then that I began the
Answer Yourself project which culminated with the book of
the same name late last year. I came back to the Bay Area
in late 2000. Photography and life are one in the same for
