Riding the F-Line

"The new F-Line, which grew out of the combined Municipal Railway and Market Street Railway's Historic Trolley Festivals of recent years, has brought back surface-level streetcar service along Market Street to Castro, with an extension planned and under construction along the Embarcadero to Fisherman's Wharf. With the addition of seventeen reconstructed PCC (streamlined, low-slung Presidents' Conference Committee) cars, along
with MUNI's fleet of beautifully restored vintage streetcars from cities of the U.S., Portugal, Germany, England, Japan, Italy and Australia, the F-Market Line may well rival the ever popular Cable Cars of San Francisco.

"Noe Valley photographer Tim Baskerville recently embarked on a project to photograph the interiors of these streetcars, with their fine woodworking, sturdy metal fixtures and open space. The light, fine detail, and elegance of these proud old trams and trolleys represents a mode of transportation all but gone from the hustle-bustle of our modern age and is captured in this series of photographs.

"We present Interiors: The F-Market Line,
