Aloha, Big Island Nocturne

Organized thru the efforts of one of our iillustrious Alumnus, this two-night Night Photography (NPy) Workshop, promises to be a stellar expedition! NOTE: an optional third night tour up to the summit of Mauna Kea and the observatories during the Full Moon period of August 8-10 is being arranged thru an independent touring company - details with registration, For more inifo see http://www.thenocturnes.com/workshops/hawaii.html

Santa Fe Nocturne
After much discussion and planning with another local guide / Nocturnes Alum, we are excited to offer our first ever 3-night Full Moon NPy workshop in historic Santa Fe, New Mexico - during the waxing Full "Harvest" Moon, September 5-7, 2014. On our first night, we will photograph around the Plaza in downtown Santa Fe - where there is just the right amount of available and mixed lighting at night. On nights two and three, we travel to such sites as the Bonanza Creek Movie Ranch, Rio Grande Gorge (part of Rio Grande del Norte National Monument) and the area around the village of Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch - as we enter progressively darker regions, relying mostly on the illumination of the Full Harvest Moon. Full details here.

Paint the Light Fantastic!
Building upon groundwork covered in our Introduction to Night Photography course, here we focus on the more creative aspects of Night Photography: light painting with flashlights, strobes and other electroluminescent devices. In addition to traditional “light painting” techniques, where, unseen to the camera, the light source is used to illuminate an object in the scene, or the scene itself, we also include “light drawing”, where the light IS the subject. Held Thursdays, May 1, 8, and 15, 2014 at Harvey Milk Photo Center, San Francisco. Details here.

Introduction to Night Photography, on Mare Island
The origination point will be the Mare Island Museum on historic Mare Island, where we will meet at 6pm on May 3rd for a brief intro/lecture, followed by fieldwork at 7-11pm. This location is so rich in subject matter, from 100-150 year old buildings, to massive ship building equipment, historic officers' mansions, and military artifacts. See Harvey Milk Photo Center for details.
